Keeping company with a small group of likeminded travellers, you will mix with outback characters at an authentic Aussie pub, wander amidst 600-year-old Kauri Pines, revel in the sights, smells and sounds of a bush breakfast at Undara. Or simply pause on your journey to be embraced by nature.

Day 1: Cairns to Yungaburra

Our small party heads south through sugar cane country, engrossed in the area’s history, as the scene is set for three days of magnificent touring. Enroute, we encounter wetlands of the Eubenangee Swamp, the remnants of a bygone era. You may espy a resident saltwater crocodile in this superior bird watching region. Make a magical detour to the Spanish ruins of Paronella Park Heritage Gardens and explore the restored castles and tropical rainforest surrounds. After lunch, we embark on a guided rainforest trail encompassing Douglas Creek and Nandroya Falls, the most spectacular, accessible waterfall in the Wooroonooran National Park. At today’s close, we retire to Allumbah Pocket Cottages, quaint overnight accommodation nestled in the village of Yungaburra. Unwind in the warm country charm and choose one of several quality restaurants to sample the freshest fare of the Cairns Highlands. (LD) Beverages excluded. Accommodation – Allumbah Pocket Cottages

Day 2: Yungaburra to Undara National Park

Today’s journey encompasses an immense diversity of landscape and environment. After a hearty, country-style breakfast, we explore the Tully River Gorge National Park, a rainforest reserve providing spectacular views of the deep ravine and Tully River below. Leaving the rainforest behind, we enter the renowned Australian Outback, where you can sample true outback hospitality: lunch in a classic Mt Garnet outback pub. Our ultimate destination today, Undara is a pristine wilderness, a geological and biological time warp. Join a ‘Savannah Guide’ for the perfect two hour introduction to this 190,000-year-old wonder. Our day ends with an enchanting sunset tour and a 3 course meal. Your overnight accommodation is in the authentic, turn-of-the-century railway carriages. And of course, there is always time for star gazing in an area acclaimed worldwide for clarity. (BLD) Beverages excluded. Accommodation – Undara Railway Carriages

Day 3: Undara National Park to Cairns via Kirrima Range Road

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning in the natural bush ambiance. Our return to Cairns is along an unsealed road with lunch at Goshen Station, providing an exclusive change to meet the owners and understand the workings of a remote cattle station. After lunch you will become intimately acquainted with this landscape as you are captivate by the rapture of Blenco Falls, an impressive three-tiered waterfall tumbling 300 meters into the Herbert River Gorge. On a visit to the board walk at Society Flats you’ll encounter a patch of 600-year-old Kauri Pines and Rose Gums. Our little group parts ways upon our return to Cairns late afternoon.
